During the reign of the Syailendra Dynasty, the King constructed Borobudur. Historically, the Dynasty ruled Java Island in the 8th and 9th centuries AD. The design of the temple was a combination of India’s and local’s architecture style. The stone carvings were the main decoration representing images from the life of Buddha.

2. Prambanan
Secondly, we visit Prambanan Temple. Exploring Prambanan Temple will amaze you with the masterpiece of the Hindu culture of the tenth century. Prambanan with 47 meters height has shown the greatest ancient architecture design. It has another name as Roro Jonggrang.
While exploring Prambanan Temple, you will notice three temples that represent three gods in Hindus. The biggest one represents Shiva, the destroyer. The two smaller ones sit on its right and left represent Brahma, the creator, and Vishnu, the Sustainer. Moreover, the close location of Prambanan from Borobudur temple tells us that Buddism and Hinduism communities lived harmoniously next to another on Java island.
3. Mendut and Pawon
Around 3 kilometers on the east side of Borobudur Temple, we could see another Temple which is Mendut Temple. Despite its look that may not insignificant compared to that of Borobudur, it houses the most outstanding statues in its original setting of any temple in Java. Its 3 meters-high figure of Buddha is flanked by Bodhisattvas, Lokesvara on the left and Vairapana on the right.
Pawon Temple is situated between two other Buddhist Temples, Borobudur (1.75 km to the northeast) and Mendut (1.15 km to the southwest). It is connected with the other two temples, which were also built during the Sailendra Dynasty (8th–9th centuries).
